Why this matters
Dave lives, works and connects to his site from the UK. So why should his admin account allow login attempts from <insert another country here>? Peter is also an admin and lives in the USA. You could look at setting up a firewall for the admin area to allow a short list of both countries, but that would still allow access attempts for Peter’s account from the UK and vice versa.
Wouldn’t it be handy if each admin user could be restricted to their own country? With ToggleWP this is quick and easy to set up on a per user basis.
What it does
When a user has the administrator role a new “Allowed Login Countries” panel is shown on their User profile screen. From here you can include one or more countries that are allowed for that single admin user.
When a per user country restriction has been set, that user will be emailed a single use emergency override link (which is also replaced monthly). This will allow them to adjust their allowed countries in case they took a last minute trip to the United States.
If Peter tries to log in from the UK without updating his allowed countries list it will be blocked and an error shown on the login screen.
How to set it up
The allowed login countries list needs to be set on a per user basis. Enable the “Login Monitoring” module, then head over to Users, find your admin user of choice and scroll down till you find the “Login Monitoring – Country Restrictions” section.
From here you can start entering a country name, clicking it to select, so it appears like the below. When you are happy with your selection make sure to click save. Need to remove Spain after returning from holiday, click X to remove it (then save).
